ABOUT RED CHILLY-history of red chillyFamily : Solanaceae Genus : Capsicum Chillies or Red Pepper are ripened dried fruits of a bushy plant of genus Capsicum belonging to the Solanaceae family. There are a number of domesticated and cultivated spices of the plant across the world. Two of the most commonly cultivated spices.
They are typically used for making food preparations hot and spicy as well as adding the distinct red tinge to the final product.
Chillies in India
India is known to produce all varities of chilly, right from low pungent to extremely high pungent varities. And extremely high colour varities. .India is the largest producer and exporter of Chilly in the world. Chilly are primarily grown in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat & MP.
The pungency of the chilly is measure in scoville scale .the hotness of the chilly is because the capsaicin present actually in the inner membrane placents of the chilly and not in the chilly pod and chilly flakes as commonly belived .there are more than 50 to 100 varities of chilly available in the state of andhra pradesh .there are different in colour,size,shape and pungency
India produces an average of 900000 MT of Chillies annually of which about 16% – 17% is exported to various countries across the globe.
